Ornament

Human ornamentation keeps the focus on our exterior, superficial and transient qualities rather than our personality, intellect and values. The more intriguing our adornments, (clothing, jewelry, tattoos, piercings) the longer we can wander through our lives avoiding the responsibility of becoming interesting. We can control how we are perceived and erect a barrier between ourselves and others by keeping them focused on the decorative facade rather than the void beneath. Eventually, ornamentation renders us obsolete, mere support structures, unseen and underdeveloped.
