Reliquary

We have many relics in our lives. Some are tangible; many are not. A mother’s white gloves, a father’s watch, the scent of grandmother’s powder, a love letter from someone we know was perfect, or a melody from our youth. Times we yearn to revisit, dreams we cannot quite remember, a tender moment. We consider the other choice we could have made and the thought we never finished. These are examples of relics that we visit from time to time. When we are relaxed, perhaps sitting quietly at the end of the day or waiting for sleep to come, our minds wander and find these cherished memories. We handle them gently, taking pleasure in this solitary meditation, and then return them to their place.
